Oktoberfest featuring Germany’s Vocaldente

A cappella, Fair/Festival, Food/Tasting

Join us for our very first Oktoberfest celebration at the Historic Seminole Theatre. What can you expect from Oktoberfest? Traditional German Food and Beer will accompany our full bar at the theater, as we celebrate German culture, art and games. You can certainly count on some drinking songs to join in on. The event is highlighted by German vocal supergroup Vocaldente, going on stage at 8 pm. Vocaldente is a German, a capella quintet that excites their audiences with purely vocal experiences unaided, unamplified and unadulterated. Their music spans nearly every decade from the Charleston of the Golden Twenties to German Schlager to 50’s Rock' n' Roll to 70’s disco to the present day. At times furiously fast-paced, sentimentally romantic, abysmally comical, or profoundly demanding, their performances combine perfect technical skill with original arrangements, moderations, and choreographies. The quintet is the winner of many national and international vocal and A Cappella awards, including the International Contemporary A Cappella Competition in Taipei and the Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival in San Francis co. Their current program is called "Life is a highway,” based on the title of a Tom Cochrane song, which is currently featured in the concert program. The title also describes the path of a career and the turbulent life of those, who, like musicians, spend much of their lives in airplanes, trains, cars, and tour buses. Vocaldente is composed of Tobias Kiel and Jakob Buch (Tenor), Benjamin Boresch (Countertenor), Alexander Nolte (Baritone) and Tobias Pasternack (bass).

New Shanghai Circus

For the Family, Circus

Astonishing athletes defy gravity and execute breathtaking feats as they stretch the limits of human ability in this spellbinding show. Fearless performers with boundless energy bring you more than two thousand years of Chinese circus traditions. If it’s humanly possible and even if it’s not! Shanghai acrobats, jugglers and contortionists do it with spectacular flair. Direct from China, this troupe has been wowing audiences for 16 years. The Chinese acrobatic tradition dates back to 700 B.C.; that’s over 2,000 years of tumbling, balancing and juggling. Ancient stone carvings, earthen pottery and early written work trace the ancestry of today’s spectacular acts. Relics tell the tales of famous acrobats like Confucius’ father, who is believed to have lifted a pair of 1,000-pound city gates to let an army storm through. The art of Chinese acrobatics developed out of the Lunar New Year harvest celebrations, where the village’s peasants and craftsmen would hold a kind of Chinese Thanksgiving. Acrobats would use household tools and common items found around the farm and workshop as part of their exciting feats. Performers passed their skills down from generation to generation and great acrobatic families of China entertained everyone from city rulers to village people, performing at ceremonial carnivals and public theaters across the country.
