Heirs of flamenco masters like Manuel Soto 'Sordera' or Juan Carmona 'Habichuela', and belonging to the third generation of the Habichuela’s, one of the great flamenco sagas, Ketama are part of a generation of unprejudiced, fearless musicians with a deep knowledge of flamenco tradition. Drama, Play

July 11 - 14 Zaragoza, Spain. What does Ophelia do in our era? Who hears her lament before she sinks into vulgarity and tedium? It is like asking for the meaning of poetry in our age of speed and space.

John Leguizamo: Latin History for Morons

Comedy, Solo Performance

Endless critical and audience acclaim direct from Broadway. A sold-out run at The Public Theater. A record-breaking engagement at Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Latin History for Morons, the most totally unique show of the season, reveals American's unsung heroes, throughout past and present - all unforgettably told by Tony and Emmy Award® winner John Leguizamo, one of the most incisive, insightful and entertaining personalities on stage today. Latin History for Morons is inspired by the near total absence of Latinos from his son's American History books. John Leguizamo embarks on an outrageously funny, frenzied search to find a Latin hero for his son's school history project. From a mad recap of the Aztec empire to stories of unknown Latin patriots of the Revolutionary War and beyond, Leguizamo breaks down the 3,000 years between the Mayans and Pitbull into 110 irreverent and uncensored minutes above and beyond his unique style.

An Evening with Colson Whitehead

Signing/Readings, Talks/Lectures

Colson Whitehead, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award-winning Oprah’s Book Club selection The Underground Railroad, will be in Miami for an exclusive appearance to celebrate the highly-anticipated follow-up, The Nickel Boys: A Novel (Penguin Random House)—a devastating, driven narrative that showcases a great American novelist writing at the height of his powers. The event is presented in partnership with Books & Books and Miami Book Fair and will be introduced by Mitchell Kaplan of Books & Books. In his speech accepting the 2016 National Book Award for The Underground Railroad, Colson Whitehead summarized the responsibility of writers in our difficult times: Be Kind. Make Art. Fight the Power. With his astonishing new novel, it’s clear he’s taken his own counsel to heart. A perfect follow-up and companion to The Underground Railroad, in The Nickel Boys, Colson Whitehead recreates the horrors of segregation and the struggles of the Civil Rights movement as the backdrop for an emotionally charged and compulsively readable novel populated with deeply empathetic characters. In the early 1960s, as the Civil Rights movement begins to reach segregated Tallahassee, Florida, one innocent mistake is all it takes for Elwood Curtis to become sentenced to the Nickel Academy — a grotesque chamber of horrors where sadistic staff abuse the students, corrupt officials steal food and supplies, and any boy who resists is likely to disappear “out back.” Elwood takes the words of Dr. Martin Luther King to heart. “Throw us in jail and will still love you.” His friend Turner thinks Elwood is worse than naïve — that the world is crooked, and that the only way to survive is to scheme and avoid trouble. The tension between Elwood’s ideals and Turner’s skepticism leads to a decision with repercussions that will echo for decades.

The Gipsy Kings featuring Nicolas Reyes and Tonino Baliardo

Latin/Salsa, Rock, Jazz, World

Flamenco, Latin rhythms and Western pop come together in the irresistible music of The Gipsy Kings, the GRAMMY-winning, chart-topping world music superstars. For more than 30 years now, the Gipsy Kings have captured the world’s imagination, ever since the release of their platinum-selling album in 1987, which included hits like "Djobi Djoba," "Bamboléo," and the romantic ballad, "Un Amor." Since then, this party-starting ensemble has toured around the globe and sold 20 million albums worldwide. Their 2013 LP, Savor Flamenco, won that year’s GRAMMY Award for Best World Music Album. Led by songwriters Nicolas Reyes (lead vocals) and Tonino Baliardo (lead guitar), The Gipsy Kings is comprised of electrifying flamenco, salsa, and pop musicians from Arles and Montpellier (in the south of France). Performing in their native language, Gitane (a mixture of Spanish, French, and Catalan), the Gipsy Kings are credited with bringing Catalan rumba, a pop-oriented music derived from traditional flamenco, to new audiences around the world. From the beginning, their sound has reflected the constant travel and diverse influences of the gypsy heritage, yet they have never lost their intense connection to the traditional flamenco of their heritage, keeping a spotlight on Tonino Baliardo’s fluid guitar work and Nicolas Reyes’s powerful vocals.
